Celebrating the crucial educational role of university art collections, this exhibition is the first comprehensive survey of the best drawings, watercolours and prints from the magnificent holdings of University College London. The collections were begun in 1847, but not exhibited to the public until 1930, two years before the founding of the Barber Institute. Since then, both collections have grown rapidly — the UCL holdings now comprise over 10,000 objects — and this show provides a welcome opportunity to display them together. Artists featured include Dürer, Holbein, Rubens, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Wright of Derby, Turner, Constable, Whistler, Gwen and Augustus John, Wyndham Lewis, Stanley Spencer and other 20th-century prize-winners from the Slade School of Fine Art. A special focus is the work of the renowned British Neoclassical sculptor and draughtsman, John Flaxman (1755–1826) whose work formed the original UCL collection
